What is a slots bonus?

A slots bonus is a bonus given specifically to play slots with. It normally comes in one of two varieties:

  • A cashable bonus – providing you meet the wagering requirements attached to the bonus (see more below), you get to keep the bonus you’re given
  • A non-cashable bonus – you can use this to make bets on slot games, but the bonus itself isn’t available to claim. You can, however, keep anything you win from the bets you make with that bonus.

The latter bonuses are sometimes called ‘sticky’ bonuses, because they essentially stick with the casino that offers them, and cannot be claimed. However, if you were to win £20 playing a slot where you used a £5 slots bonus, you could keep the £20 but not the fiver. Makes sense?

How does it compare to free spins or real money slots?

A free slots bonus differs from other ways you could play a slot game:

  1. Instead of getting free spins, you get a set amount of money to wager on a slot game
  2. This gives you control over the size of bet you place on each spin
  3. There is often more game variety on paid slots
  4. A slots bonus (and free spins) can be limited to certain games – perhaps even just one
  5. There could be strict rules and regulations on how you can use the slots bonus

How can you get a slots bonus?

There are several ways you could get hold of a free slots bonus:

  • Slots no deposit bonus – this is given free in exchange for signing up for a casino as a new member. As the name suggests, there is no need to make a deposit to get this.
  • Slots deposit bonus – this is a version of the offer mentioned above, except this time, you need to make a deposit to get the bonus.
  • Slot tournaments – sometimes, you might win a slots bonus by taking part in a tournament. A tournament could be free to enter, and you might get a certain slot bonus by taking part.

Watch out for bonuses given periodically by a huge array of slots websites, not to mention bingo websites that also provide slots for players to try.

Are there Ts and Cs?

There are plenty of things you should look for in a slots bonus. We’ve put together some tips to help you:

  • Playthrough or wagering requirements – very often, sites will put wagering requirements in place that must be met before a slot bonus can be withdrawn, i.e. you must playthrough 50x your bonus before withdrawing it with any winnings.
  • Limited games – a bonus may only be valid for use on one slot game, or a small handful of games. This means it cannot be used on all games, and perhaps not the ones you would most like to play.
  • Time limits – most bonuses are time-limited, i.e. they must be played and used within a set time. This could be a week, for example, so always check the time limit set for any bonus you find.
  • Limited wins – some websites put a limit on what can be won by using a slots bonus. For example, you may be limited to winning a particular sum, and anything above that won’t be paid to you.

Top tip: Always, always, always read the terms and conditions before claiming a bonus!

This applies to all bonuses, of course, not just slot bonuses. However, it is important. You don’t want to use a bonus and then find you can’t withdraw any of your winnings from it.
