The first time I opened the Pick 'n' Mix bingo game at Sun Bingo, I couldn’t help but wonder if something had gone awry; take a look at the screenshots on this page – I’m sure I can’t be the only one who feels as if the game is missing background graphics? I contacted Sun Bingo via the live chat, who assured me everything was working as it should… I’m still not convinced! Assuming they are correct, though, there’s no doubt that Pick & Mix is a rather bland-looking online bingo game – but it does have a few other things that work in its favour.
This is a 75-Ball game, which means there is a minimum of five prizes on offer during every round. In addition to the standard payouts for completing lines on your bingo card, there is also a pattern prize available should any player create a specific shape when crossing off their winning numbers. These shapes include ladders, hotdogs, butterflies, and a whole range of other things, which I guess is where the ‘Pick & Mix’ title comes from. Finally, there’s also a game-specific progressive jackpot which stood at £2,850 at the time of writing – 14,250x the cost of a single ticket.

Pick 'n' Mix BingoWith a name like ‘Pick 'n' Mix’, I was expecting this game to have a bunch of sweets in the background or something along those lines. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case, and worse still, I don’t know of anywhere in my entire city that still offers pick and mix! We live in a time where children are oblivious to the joys of being able to scoop up their own bag of mixed treats – what a sad day it is! Anyway, I digress! If the theme of Pick & Mix is a little bit dull for your liking, I’d recommend checking out some of the other 75-Ball games in our review library instead – Jive Talking or Deal or No Deal 75 would be a good start.
Pick & Mix uses standard 75-Ball bingo tickets that feature a 5x5 number grid with a single ‘free’ square in the centre. Most other elements of Pick & Mix are typical for a 75-Ball game, but I did notice a couple of oddities while testing the game for this review. For a start, the description of the game states that every round offers five prizes, but I did not find that to be the case in every game. Some rounds had a payout for completing one line, two lines, three lines, and so forth, whilst others had a one-line prize followed by a frame prize and a coverall prize. I’m not sure what rules are used to determine what prizes are offered in each game – perhaps that is another one of its ‘Pick 'n' Mix’ aspects!

Pick 'n' Mix Bingo GameplayAfter joining the Pick & Mix room, you’ll need to purchase some tickets before you can participate in the next round. If a game is already in progress, you can opt to buy tickets for the next game. There’s no minimum ticket requirement for this bingo game – you are free to buy just a single card if you wish, but there is a maximum limit of 72 tickets per player per round. Ticket prices are advertised as being between £0.20 and £0.40 each, but I have yet to see them go above £0.20 each at any time during the past few days.
Playing Pick 'n' Mix couldn’t be simpler – after you have purchased your cards, you wait for the timer to hit zero, and the round will begin. The announcer will then begin to call numbers, and the software will mark off all matching digits on any tickets that you have purchased. There is an option within the software to mark your cards manually if you wish, but I wouldn’t recommend this unless you are playing with just one or two tickets each round! Each round offers a minimum of three prizes, although some games will award as many as six. Payouts typically range between 25x and 150x the cost of a single ticket.

Pick 'n' Mix Bingo WinnerThis is a straightforward bingo game without any bonus rounds or other whizz-bang features; for some players, that will be a good thing, whilst I’m sure others will consider this boring and put them off giving Pick & Mix a try. Nevertheless, there are a couple of unique aspects worth mentioning.

The 5x5 number grid on a 75-Ball bingo ticket provides a small area where patterns can be created – you could have an ‘I’ pattern, for example, with a solid horizontal line across rows one and five, plus a vertical line in column three.
If you can create this pattern on one of your cards using the numbers called, you will win the game's pattern prize. However, the pattern prize may not be awarded during every game, and the game seems to award a ‘frame’ prize for completing all four outside edges whenever this is the case.

The regular prizes offered by a typical online bingo game are often small, certainly when compared to those available via slots and casino games. Progressive jackpots help to move the goalposts here, however, and I have no doubt that many bingo players would refuse to play a game that didn’t have any jackpot whatsoever!
The jackpot offered in Pick & Mix isn’t the biggest you will find at an online bingo site, as it’s exclusive to this game only. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as a game-specific jackpot is typically much easier to win than a network jackpot. If you are lucky enough to win, half of the money is paid directly to you, with the remaining 50% being divided equally amongst all other players who purchased tickets for that round.

I’m still not convinced that Pick & Mix isn’t missing its background graphics – the game looks extremely bland right now, as shown in our screenshots. Despite this, I found the game quite enjoyable – the room tends to be fairly quiet, which means you have a great chance of winning something each time you play. The jackpot hits a sweet spot for me too – it’s big enough to get me interested, and you don’t need to beat lottery-winner odds to collect it either!
