In much of Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, 90-Ball bingo is the preferred variant of choice. However, across the Atlantic in the United States and the remainder of the North American continent, 75-Ball bingo is the dominant variation. The format of the game remains the same – numbers are called at random, then marked off each player's bingo card or ticket until somebody creates a winning combination. 

When bingo is played in person, each player will use a large felt tip pen – often referred to as a dabber – to mark off each number from their card(s) as the caller shouts them out. In the online game, the computer is responsible for marking off your numbers instead. Several different varieties of bingo exist too, such as 30-ball, 40-ball, 50-ball, and 80-ball, and all of these are typically available at any online bingo website.

The rules of 75-ball bingo are as follows:

• Purchase your bingo tickets/cards – there may be a minimum or maximum number of tickets permitted for purchase in each different 75-ball bingo game.

• The 75 bingo balls are then dropped into a rotating container or cage by the game's announcer. When playing at an online bingo site, this process is handled digitally using random number generation (RNG).

• The balls are divided into five colours, each representing a letter of the word BINGO. This is because, on a 75-ball ticket, each column relates to one of the five letters.

• If the announcer calls out a number which appears on one or more of your bingo cards, you mark that number off of your ticket using your dabber. Again, when playing online, this process is handled automatically. 

• To win, you must cross off a series of numbers that matches the currently active pattern – see below for details. This contrasts sharply with other variants, such as 90-ball or 40-ball, where prizes are instead paid for hitting simple lines on the bingo card.

• The player who shouts BINGO after completing the current game's pattern wins the prize.

A 75-ball bingo card or ticket contains a 5x5 grid of numbers. The word B-I-N-G-O is written across the top of the ticket, one letter directly above each set of five numbers. A single free space is left in the centre of the card, on the third row, directly underneath the letter N. 

• The numbers shown in the B column range between 1 and 15.
• The numbers shown in the I column range between 16 and 30.
• The numbers shown in the N column range between 31 and 45.
• The numbers shown in the G column range between 46 and 60.

As a game of pure chance, there are no shortcuts to a quick win when playing 75-ball bingo, I’m afraid! Your best bet is to keep an eye out for cheap ticket prices, especially when they coincide with larger player pools. In this scenario, should one or more of your cut-price tickets hit a win, it will be worth much more than it otherwise may have been. 

In days gone by, traditional 75-ball bingo worked quite similarly to other variants in that all you needed to do was complete a simple line or full house. However, the game has evolved over the years – especially since its transition to the online format – and now it is much more common to find each game has a unique pattern that must be completed to win the game. A pattern could be anything from the letter Z, a section of train track, or a chair. If it can be crudely drawn on a 5x5 pixel grid, it could be a pattern!

Many 75-ball bingo games include a progressive jackpot prize on top of the regular payouts for completing the winning pattern. A percentage of the purchase price of every ticket goes into the jackpot prize pool to fund these jackpots, which may be attached to just that specific game or shared amongst a group of games at one or more bingo sites. These jackpots can often run into several tens of thousands of pounds, making for a very exciting game of bingo!

In many cases, the progressive jackpot prizes will be split 50/50, 50% for the winner and 50% to be divided amongst all those in the room at the time.

Like most things in life, this will come down to personal preference! Some players appreciate the fact that one player takes the entire prize pot when playing 75-ball bingo, whilst others prefer the chance to win three times per ticket as in 90-ball bingo. 

Some players would say that 90-ball is the more straightforward game, but in reality, when you are playing online, and the computer is dabbing off all of your numbers for you, the only thing that matters is how good your odds are – 75-ball is a higher volatility game, so I’d recommend making your choice based on that factor alone.
