The Masked Singer is a British television show that proved to be an unlikely smash hit when it first launched in January 2020. The idea for the show initially came from a South Korean reality program known as ‘King of Mask Singer’. It’s a reality singing competition with one significant difference from its competitors – the singers are celebrities or other well-known personalities who perform dressed in outrageous outfits to hide their true identities. This 90-Ball bingo game was launched in December 2020, just in time for the show's second season to begin airing in January of 2021. Each round offers three prizes, just like most other 90-Ball bingo games; at the time of writing, the average full house prize seemed to be roughly in the region of 200x the cost of a single ticket.
Some TV-themed bingo games can be lazy efforts, in my experience, with only the most rudimentary of efforts made to incorporate elements of the TV show in question into the bingo game experience. Thankfully, that is not the case here – The Masked Singer includes a ‘Match the Mask’ bonus round, which every player gets to participate in regardless of whether they go on to win a prize in the main bingo game itself. Furthermore, the progressive jackpot is a ‘must-drop’ jackpot, meaning it is guaranteed to pay out daily. Unfortunately, it only seeds at £50, but records indicate that it occasionally rises to around £500 on busy days when the player count is high.

The Masked Singer BingoA decent amount of effort has been put into making The Masked Singer feel like a licensed product, starting with the background graphics, which utilise the show's famous mask artwork. Other TV-based games that made a similarly good effort to represent their source material include The Crystal Maze Bingo and Deal or No Deal, both of which received excellent scores when we reviewed them in previous months. Other titles, such as The X-Factor, were more middle-of-the-road efforts, and as for Coronation Street Bingo, the less said about that one, the better!
The tickets used in The Masked Singer are essentially the same as those utilised in any other 90-Ball bingo variant, but some effort has been made to make them look unique and interesting despite this. Even so, anybody familiar with 90-Ball bingo will instantly recommend the three-row layout of five numbers per row unless you opt to activate the simplified view, which is much more attractive, in my own opinion.
This game used to be available every day between 9 AM and 11 PM, but at the time of writing, the schedule appears to have been significantly reduced. The Masked Singer now opens at 6 PM every Saturday, with feature games offered on days when the television show is also airing. Unsurprisingly, the player count tends to be much higher these days, which also means that you can expect a much bigger progressive jackpot to be offered as well. Unfortunately, I was only able to monitor ticket prices during a single session because of the limited availability of the game at this time, but tickets were priced at 10p each, with a maximum of 100 available for purchase by each participating player.

The Masked Singer Bingo GameplayIf you are new to 90-Ball bingo, you might be interested in reading our guide to the format before beginning your first session of play. At the start of each round of The Masked Singer Bingo, you’ll be asked to select your masked singer from eight potential contenders. These are all based on contestants who were part of the show's initial run, including Daisy, Fox, Hedgehog, and Monster. The eighth contender effectively acts as a ‘lucky dip’. Your choice of masked singer is used as part of the ‘Match the Mask’ feature at the end of the round – see below for details.
The game will then progress with numbers between one and ninety being called at random. The game will automatically mark off any matching numbers on your tickets, which is extremely useful for those who have purchased dozens or perhaps even the full quota of 100! Three prizes are paid during each round – one each for filling one, two, or three lines – also known as a full house. Should more than one player happen to hit any of these prizes on the same call, they will each receive an equal share of the pot available for that particular combination.

In the previous section, I mentioned that each round begins with you selecting one of eight different costumes to be your mask for the current game. Then, when the full house prize is won by one or more players, the ‘Match the Mask’ bonus game is activated.
A message will now pop up on the screen to tell you which mask the winner of the full house prize had selected. If you successfully picked the same mask yourself at the beginning of the round, you’ll be awarded one free ticket for the next game free of charge. It’s only a small treat, but it’s always nice to get something for free, isn’t it?

At the start of every day, The Masked Singer ‘Must Drop’ jackpot is reset back to its standard seed value of £50. To win the jackpot, you’ll need to call the full house within 36 calls – that’s a tough ask, in my view, considering that you need to match 15 numbers to do so!
Thankfully, as this is a ‘Must Drop’ jackpot, the number of calls required steadily increases throughout the night. If the jackpot has not been won by the time the last game of the day is played, the prize will automatically be awarded to the player who wins the full house during that round.
If such a situation occurs on a night when you are playing, make sure you purchase the maximum possible number of tickets you can afford for that final game – it could be the easiest progressive jackpot you’ll ever win!

This is one of the better TV-themed bingo games I’ve played, but it isn’t quite up to the standards of The Crystal Maze or Deal or No Deal. Nevertheless, I hope that PlayOJO will open the game up on other days of the week again at some point soon - when the show returns to television screens, perhaps?
