The online bingo scene here in the United Kingdom is full to bursting point with every conceivable form of 90-Ball bingo you can imagine. That’s understandable given that 90-Ball is traditionally the most popular format of bingo played on this side of the pond but comes at the expense of its American-style cousin: 75-Ball bingo. That’s a shame, too, as the 75-Ball game has a little bit more going on than the typical 90-Ball version and makes every game I try of this type slightly more novel and interesting just by means of the ticket and prize structure. Dancefloor by Pragmatic Play is especially unique as it's intended as a ‘speed’ variant of 75-Ball, meaning that only two prizes are paid out during each round. Those prizes typically come in at around 50x and 100x the cost of a ticket, whilst the RTP is advertised as being ‘above 70%’ – not exactly specific, but useful information, nonetheless.
The ’dance floor’ theme isn’t exactly overcooked here, sadly – it seems to entail nothing more than a background image, but I guess it does set the tone for a speedy game. More importantly, though, the game offers a progressive jackpot to any player who can fill in an entire card in record time! This is a 100% winning player prize, too, meaning that you won’t have to share your loot with the rest of the room if you are lucky enough to claim it. That aside, there doesn’t look to be much more going on here regarding special features – it’s a bit disappointing if I’m being honest.

Dance Floor BingoWith a name like Dance Floor, I expected this to be a particularly lively game of bingo. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that there’s no pounding house or drum and bass music available as a backing track. Even the announcer sounds like some guy off the 10 o’clock news instead of the estate's newest up-and-coming MC! I’m not sure if perhaps the developers thought that having a pair of speakers for a background would somehow be enough. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue with many online bingo games – even something like The X Factor Bingo with a huge license behind it doesn’t warrant much time and attention from the software studios. It doesn’t make much difference if the main thing for you is the bingo, of course, but it would be fantastic if we had a few more innovative and unique titles to try when you’re feeling tired of the same old stuff.
The great thing about Dance Floor bingo here is that it’s a 75-Ball game, so it won’t be as instantly familiar to many players as yet another 90-Ball game. The game utilises 5x5 bingo cards featuring 24 numbers in a square shape, with a star positioned in the centre. The star is your ‘free’ square, so it is always considered to be filled immediately after starting each round. The free square is often useful in 75-Ball games with a one-line prize, but not quite so much here as there are only two prizes per round – one for matching a pattern and another for the full house.
Each player is permitted to purchase between one and one hundred tickets for each game, and these are typically priced very cheaply – when I tried the game, they were available for just £0.05 per card. However, the schedule indicated that this would increase to £0.30 during the next hour or two of play. It’s unclear what the upper limit on ticket prices might be, but I suspect it will certainly be a little higher than this, considering the progressive jackpot has reached almost £15,000! However, there are still some important differences between each format that are worth knowing about. For that reason, we’ve created a guide to the 75-Ball game that should be the first port of call for readers who have little experience playing the US-style version of the game. Once you’ve skimmed through that, it’s time to buy your tickets – you can pre-buy for the next game whilst the current one is in process, a recommended move as there are only a few seconds between rounds on most occasions.
Dance Floor plays out a little differently from other 75-Ball games, though, as there are no traditional prizes on offer here. Instead, each round offers one prize to the first player(s) who can match that round's pre-determined pattern with the numbers called on their bingo card. It doesn’t matter if you have a few extra numbers around the edges of the pattern as long as you hit all of the balls within it. You can keep an eye on what the current pattern is by looking in the top-right corner of the game window – clicking on the pattern will enlarge it to make it easier to see. The pattern prize is typically around 50x the cost of a single ticket; once that has been claimed, the only remaining prize on offer is for completing all 24 numbers on your card – a full house. The payout for this is typically somewhere in the region of 100x the ticket price.

That’s a real shame – a pair of speakers in the background isn’t enough, in my view! On the plus side, we do at least get an attractive progressive jackpot:

The Dance Floor jackpot currently stands at £14,398.41 – an enormous amount given that the prize seeds at just £100 after it has been claimed. A 3% contribution from every ticket sold goes towards bumping up the value of this jackpot, but that’s not very much when the tickets are often sold for just a few pence each. Taking these things into account, it seems clear that this prize is not won very often, and in fact, I can find no record of when it was last claimed – if ever!
Fancy your chances of being the first player to take home the big one? If so, you’ll need to complete one of your cards within the first 45 calls of a round – a big ask, given that you have 24 numbers to fill. But, best of all, the winning player gets to keep the entire prize in this game – no need to share 50% with the community as with many other online bingo games!
